For the past several years, British Council Singapore has been the leading test centre for the Cambridge Admissions Tests in Singapore.In 2012, British Council Singapore will be administering a wide range of admission tests for entry into higher education: the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT), the English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT), the Oxford Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA Oxford), the Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP), the History Aptitude Test (HAT), the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT), the Classics Aptitude Test (CAT), the Mathematics Aptitude Test (MAT), the Modern Languages Aptitude Test (MLAT), and the Oriental Languages Aptitude Test (OLAT). 

Limited copies of the official BMAT Guide Preparing for the BMAT are on sale at our Napier Road office. This is the only BMAT preparation book approved by Cambridge Assessment, and contains specimen questions and answers designed to help you prepare and practise for the BMAT.

BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT)

The registration for BMAT has closed.

The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a subject-specific admissions test taken by applicants to Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and related courses at the following institutions:

  • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
  • University of Oxford 
  • University College London
  • Imperial College London
  • The Royal Veterinary College
  • University of Cambridge 
     

The BMAT is a two hour pen and paper test consisting of three separate sections. The BMAT does not require a great amount of extra study as it relies on skills and knowledge that candidates should already have. The test consists of the following three sections:

Section 1: Aptitude and Skills - 60 minutes
There are 35 multiple choice or short answer questions.

Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications - 30 minutes
There are 27 multiple choice or short answer questions.

Section 3: Writing Task - 30 minutes
Candidates need to answer one essay question from a choice of four questions.

The English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT)

The registration for ELAT has closed.

The English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT) is a pre-interview admissions test for applicants to undergraduate courses in English at the University of Oxford.

The test is designed to enable applicants to show their ability in the key skills of close reading, paying attention to such elements as the language, imagery, allusion, syntax, form and structure of the passages set for comment.

The Oxford Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA Oxford)

The registration for TSA Oxford has closed. 

The Oxford Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA Oxford) is a pre-interview admissions test for applications to undergraduate courses in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Economics and Management (E&M), Experimental Psychology (EP) and Psychology, Physiology and Philosophy (PPP) at the University of Oxford.

For students applying to University of Cambridge and University College London (UCL), these universities will arrange test sittings for students who need to do TSA.

History Aptitude Test (HAT)

The registration for HAT has closed. 

The History Aptitude Test (HAT) is a two-hour subject-specific admissions test, which is taken by applicants to the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in History and its joint schools.

Cambridge Assessment is working in partnership with the University of Oxford to administer the HAT for the November 2012 test sitting.

All students applying for the following courses at the University of Oxford are required to take HAT: History (V100), History (Ancient and Modern) (V118), History and Economics (LV11), History and English (VQ13), all History and Modern Languages courses, History and Politics (LV21).

Physics Aptitude Test (PAT)

The registration for PAT has closed. 

The Physics Aptitude Test (PAT) is a two-hour subject-specific admissions test, which is taken by applicants to all University of Oxford Physics and Engineering undergraduate degree courses.

All students applying for the following courses at the University of Oxford are required to take PAT: Physics (3 year course F300; 4 year course F303), Physics and Philosophy (VF53), Engineering Science (various course codes), Engineering, Economics and Management (EEM) (HLN0).

Classics Admissions Test (CAT)

The registration for CAT has closed. 

The Classics Admissions Test (CAT) is taken by applicants to the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in Classics and its joint schools.

The CAT is divided into three papers: the Latin Translation Test, the Greek Translation Test, the Classics Language Aptitude Test (CLAT).

Mathematics Aptitude Test (MAT)

The registration for MAT has closed. 

The Mathematics Aptitude Test (MAT) is taken by applicants to the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in both Mathematics and Computer Science.

The MAT is an admissions test for both Mathematics and Computer Science, and lasts for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Some questions are designed to test mathematical ability and others are designed to test aptitude for Computer Science. Candidates are reminded to read the test instructions carefully to see which questions to complete.

Modern Languages Admissions Test (MLAT)

The registration for MLAT has closed. 

The Modern Languages Admissions Tests (MLAT) are taken by applicants to the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in both Modern Languages and Linguistics.

The Modern Languages Admissions Tests include several different papers for different language and linguistics courses. Candidates will need to take a maximum of two papers. Oriental Languages Aptitude Test (OLAT)

The registration for OLAT has closed. 

The OLAT is a 30-minute admissions test taken by applicants to certain degree courses in Oriental Studies and its joint schools at the University of Oxford. 

The 30-minute OLAT is designed to assess a candidate’s ability to analyse how languages work, in a way which doesn’t depend on their knowledge of any particular language, gauging their aptitude for learning a new language quickly.

Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP)

Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP) is a well-established Mathematics university admission test, which is used to help select very academically able students for courses which are usually oversubscribed.

STEP Mathematics is used by University of Cambridge and University of Warwick to assess the suitability of candidates for their Mathematics courses.
