Cambridge ESOL

The Cambridge ESOL General English suite of exams has a wide choice of certificates reflecting the very different needs and abilities of people. Our certificates cover basic exams for those beginning to learn English, through to advanced certificates for those who have attained a high level of fluency.

We are the official examinations centre in Singapore for First Certificate in English (FCE), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

First Certificate in English (FCE)

This exam is at the upper-intermediate or 'independent user' level.

FCE is the most widely taken exam and has the most widespread recognition.
At this level, learners can expect to be able to work or study in English speaking environment and cope easily as a tourist in English speaking country, although they might have some difficulty coping with unfamiliar situations and technical language.

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

This offers a lower-advanced language qualification for those who need to use English in their jobs.

Many universities recognise CAE as an English language entry requirement.
At this level, learners can be expected to cope confidently in most situations that would arise in an English speaking country - socially, professionally and in higher education.

Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

CPE is the highest level of the Cambridge main suite examination.

This is the level of English needed to work at upper-managerial international business settings and to study at postgraduate level. At this stage, learners are approaching a standard of English similar to that of an educated native speaker, and they can be expected to cope in nearly all situations in an English speaking environment.
